We welcomed our second daughter, Piper Rose Johnson on October 17th, 2012 at 11:22 a.m. She was 8 lbs, 21 inches long.
I had been having A LOT of contractions in the week before her birth, but was only dilated to a 4. Due to the gestational diabetes, my doctor induced me on my due date. We were to arrive at the hospital at 6:00 a.m. Since we live an hour and a half away, we decided to stay the night in a hotel in town. Bug had a sleep over at grandma's house, and we ended up in a room at the casino. Unfortunately, we were too tired to "win" any money. I was really anxious this time...maybe because I knew what was coming :) I didn't really sleep at all that night because the contractions kept waking me up.
When we got to the hospital, we were shown to our room and lucky me...I got a student nurse. Awesome. I was very nice, but was not in the mood to deal with being poked several times. The student tried to start an IV and literally bent the needle. Ouch. The nurse also missed the first time. Finally, we got an IV, and got the pitocin running at about 7:00 a.m. The doctor broke my water around 8:00. By 10:00, I was only at 4 1/2 cm dilated, so I got the epidural. Thank you Chuck. The epidural man. My love. At 11:00 a.m., I was fully dilated and ready to push. I was VERY numb from the epidural, so Drew and the nurse had to hold my legs for me. After 3 pushes, Piper arrived and was set on my chest and began nursing right away. She's a natural.
Bug meeting the little monkey for the first time.
Our first day home and resting.
Piper's features look a lot like bug's, but she had dark hair! I was not expecting that at all.
